May DJ Set - Free Download!

Posted by Joss Albert on Monday, May 24, 2010

Happy Monday to everyone! Here's my 30 minute concoction for May 2010, mixed with love. Click the little downward arrow on the soundcloud player to download it, or just have a listen now if you like.

As always it's a mixture of new and old, but but always strong on groove and melody. To get people dancing is one thing; to get them singing another; to do both and maybe move some folk along the way... that is my calling.

Draw Mohammed Day

Posted by Joss Albert on Saturday, May 22, 2010

I've been diverted this week, amidst the bumper list of musical projects I'm working through, by the 'Draw Mohammed' story. 'Offense' is a thriving market of opinion-led journalism and cack-handed pseudo-philosophy and, naturally, I want to get in on the action!

In essence, it seems like quite a sweet notion; the pulling together of people through cartoons in response to what many see as a medieval source of offense. 'These cartoons are doing no harm!' we say, united in our scrawlings. However...

Enter 'Jackanory & The Ball'...

I found this pair of jazz-infused hippity hoppers through a mutual acquaintance - the usual 'liste...

The Great Escape 2010 - Saturday Review

Posted by Joss Albert on Monday, May 17, 2010

I came out of my cave for a days festival-ing this Saturday. Not field based - trench foot, cider, legal highs - but Brighton based with an array of venues replacing stages and pavements replacing Land Rover tracks.

We (me and my special Swedish friend) started the day cruising early to the ticket office, hoping to bypass booking fees. Unfortunately due to a rather heinous pricing policy we were stung by £40 each. Yowser - Fishfingers and rice only for me next week. We ate some pre-all-day-dr...

Killer Production Tip No.1

Posted by Joss Albert on Friday, May 14, 2010

The more you produce music, and meet others who do too, the more you realize how different everyone's approach is and how few production 'rules' there are. This makes the still obvious gap between professional and demo mixes more perplexing - if anything goes, how come my 'anything' doesn't?

Over the last few years I've stumbled on a handful of genuinely useful advice to try and solve that riddle. It is important to state that while everyone wants to know the best compressors or the hottest p...
